OpenAI is an entity that does artificial intelligence (AI) research and aims to use such AI technology to improve human society.

The type of artificial intelligence (AI) OpenAI strives to create are those that are very autonomous (i.e., technology that can operate with little or no human intervention) and can undertake more tasks than regular humans.

OpenAI was started in April 2015 by Tesla’s Elon Musk and Y Combinator’s Sam Altman.

Since then, a test bed (i.e., an area with instruments, equipment, etc., used for testing in exceptionally demanding circumstances) was created, from which AI agents, Universe, and Apen AI Gym came forth by 2016.

AI agents are technology that use sensors (i.e., devices that measure and relay the information as data to be interpreted) and actuators (i.e., where energy is converted into movement) to carry out tasks.

Universe is a software used to measure and instruct AIs across various applications such as games and websites.

Universe helps AI agents to be more human-like while executing tasks and solving problems.

With help from Wolfram, EA, Valve, Microsoft Studios, and other entities, OpenAI was able to get access to many games and platforms, such as SpaceChem, Wing Commander III, and Wolfram Mathematica.

OpenAI Gym is a collection of knowledge used primarily for advancing and analyzing reinforcement learning (RL).

Gym is also an open-source library in Python.

In 2018, the research paper - "Improving Language Understanding by Generative Pre-Training" was published. It was authored by Alec Radford, Karthik Narasimhan, Tim Salimans, and Ilya Sutskever from OpenAI.

The research paper - "Improving Language Understanding by Generative Pre-Training" highlighted that even though understanding natural language involves various approaches such as answering questions and categorizing documents for more straightforward analysis and labeled data (i.e., information tagged to identify specific characteristics), which is very useful in natural language processing is scarce, OpenAI has shown that significant progress can be made in undertaking the various approaches or tasks by using a variety of unlabeled text corpora (i.e., a collection of actual words that are not tagged), and adjust with different learning rates.

The research paper - "Improving Language Understanding by Generative Pre-Training" concluded that nine (9) of the twelve (12) tasks showed significant progress.

The model used in carrying out the tasks achieved just under nine percent (<9%) in the Story Cloze Test (i.e., commonsense reasoning system used to assess comprehending and creating words, images, and script).

Just under six percent (<6%) was the result for answering questions using RACE (i.e., a dataset of passages and questions used for reading and understanding).

About 1.5% was achieved on textual entailment using MultiNLI.

MultiNLI is Multi-Genre Natural Language Inference that has over four hundred thousand (>400,000) sentence pairs through crowd-sourcing. Notes are added for explanation and commentary and to establish binary relations between natural language texts (also called test fragments).

So, what is artificial intelligence (AI)?

Artificial intelligence (AI) can be defined as using computer science and collecting data to solve problems and respond to instructions and prompts.

ChatGPT and OpenAI Personnel and Investors

OpenAI LP was founded by Tesla’s and SpaceX’s Elon Musk and Y Combinator’s Sam Altman in 2015.

In March 2019, Sam Altman stepped down as president of Y Combinator and became chief executive officer (CEO) of OpenAI in May 2019.

By the end of 2019, Microsoft had invested US$1 billion into OpenAI. It started a partnership to assist it in continuing to make artificial general intelligence (AGI) that can acquire knowledge and carry out various tasks.

In 2021, Microsoft made a second investment. By January 23, 2023, Microsoft had plans to inject ten billion dollars (US$10 billion) into OpenAI as reported in The New York Times’ article ‘Microsoft to Invest $10 Billion OpenAI, the Creator of ChatGPT’ by Cade Metz and Karen Weise on January 23, 2023.

The US$10 billion investment has been reported to have Microsoft receive seventy-five percent (75%) of OpenAI’s profits until Microsoft’s investment is redeemed.

After that, Microsoft will have a forty-nine percent (49%) stake in OpenAI.

Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform is used to operate OpenAI’s technology.

Microsoft’s Azure is an online platform that provides many services, such as offering platforms, infrastructure, and database management.

Microsoft has allowed businesses to use its OpenAI features, such as ChatGPT and DALL-E 2.

Other investors in OpenAI are Greylock Partners’ and LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman and Khosla Ventures.

OpenAI is overseen by a board of directors that is comprised of chairman and president Greg Brockman, chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, chief executive officer (CEO) Sam Altman, Quora’s Adam D’ Angelo, Greylock Partners’ and LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman, Congressman Will Hurd, GeoSim System’s Tasha McCauley, Georgetown University Center for Security and Emerging Technology’s (CSET) Helen Toner, Neuralink’s Shivon Zilis.

4

ChatGPT can be used to generate content.

As a content creator, ChatGPT may be used to generate articles for blogs, scripts for videos, etc.

OpenAI and ChatGPT Investment Opportunities

Currently, ChatGPT is a leader in its field, and with the additional US $ 10 billion support from Microsoft, it doesn’t appear to lose that lead anytime soon.

Therefore, now may be an excellent time to get involved and profit from OpenAI and ChatGPT.

There are three (3) ways you may profit from OpenAI and ChatGPT as follows:

1

You may invest directly into OpenAI just like Microsoft, and other investors have done.

It may take a few years to redeem your investment and make a profit. However, it may be worth it.

Just remember that on May 15, 1997, Amazon had its initial public offer (IPO).

An IPO is a company’s first offering to the public.

On May 15, 1997, Amazon’s IPO shares were US$18 each.

By December 24, 2022, and after twenty-five (25) years, early investors who took up the IPO offer and invested approximately US$10,000 would have made about one hundred and sixteen thousand percent (116,000%) return on their investment after four (4) split events. This would equate to approximately US$11.5 million.

The US$11.5 million suggests that the investment compounded annually by approximately thirty-two percent (~32%), which is at about five times (5x) the benchmark S&P 500 index annual compound return over the same timeframe.

Now imagine how much the people who invested before the IPO made in 1997 and 2022.

How much will Microsoft make before and after any potential OpenAI IPO?

2.

Another way to invest in OpenAI and ChatGPT is to invest in Microsoft.

On April 30, 2015, the same month and year OpenAI started, Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) share price closed at US$46.86 on the Nasdaq.

On February 17, 2023, Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) share price closed at US$258.06 on the Nasdaq.

This shows that Microsoft’s shares and value have increased considerably since the inception of OpenAI.

Now, this doesn’t mean it is because of OpenAI that its share and value went up. You may have to do more research to know what factors have contributed to Microsoft’s over five hundred and fifty percent (>550%) increase in share price in roughly eight (8) years.

3.

Additionally, as highlighted above, you may invest in OpenAI and ChatGPT by using the technology to improve your life, be more efficient at work, further your career, and make money.
