PGA Championship Leaderboard 2023 and Rochester Real Estate Market
By Leroy A. Brown
The PGA Championship is an annual golf competition that is done by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.
The PGA Championship is one of the four (4) major golf tournaments globally.
The other three (3) major golf championships recognized globally in modern men’s professional golf are the Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open, and The Open Championship.
In 2023, the 105th PGA Championships is held from May 18 – 21 at the Oak Hill East Course.
The PGA Championship purse is $15 million.
Oak Hill East Course
The Oak Hill East Course is located at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, United States (U.S.).
The famous architect Donald Ross designed the Oak Hill East Course in the 1920s, which has changed over the years.
The Oak Hill Country Club has hosted several golf tournaments on the East Course, including the current PGA Championship, the U.S. Amateur, the Ryder Cup, the U.S. Senior Open, the U.S. Open, and the Senior PGA Championship.
The Oak Hill East Course has been renovated to meet the United States Golf Association’s (USGA) specifications.
PGA Championship 2023
By Thursday, May 18, 2023, four (4) Americans – Eric Cole, Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler, and Dustin Conners, and one Canadian – Corey Conners, were in the top five (5) spots with Eric Cole leading.
Round 1 was suspended due to how dark it was.
LIV golfers do play in the PGA Championship. They play fifty-four (54) holes, which is about eighteen (18) less than the PGA Championship.
Rochester real estate housing market
In April 2023, Rochester home prices dropped by over six percent (>6%) compared to last year.
The median home sale price was about $140,000.
Homes stayed on the market for as little as twelve (12) days which is a bit longer than usual.
Approximately 178 to 217 homes were sold in April 2023, which was less than last year.
Homes typically receive multiple offers and have been sold for up to $70,000 over the asking price.
The Rochester real estate market is a seller’s market, as there are more homebuyers than houses available.
Over seventy percent (>70%) of homebuyers in Rochester want to be in the metropolitan areas.
Less than one percent (<1%) of buyers searching for homes in the United States (U.S.) wanted to move to Rochester.
Many of these homebuyers who searched to migrate to Rochester were from New York City, Washington, and Los Angeles.
Some of Rochester's best or most popular neighborhoods are 19th Ward, Maplewood, and Beechwood.
Corn Hill is considered one of the most expensive neighborhoods, with a median listing price of approximately $220,000.
Edgerton is considered one of the most affordable neighborhoods, with a median listing price of approximately $54,000.
Some of the reasons contributing to higher house prices and fewer homes for sale in Rochester are:
1
Seniors are opting for home care as opposed to going into nursing homes.
2
Investors are buying residential properties for rental or Airbnb income.
As younger people seek to live in apartments rather than houses, the rental price for apartments has increased because of the demand created.
